Worcester Academy Girls Varsity Basketball Update
The Worcester Academy Girls Varsity Basketball team has managed to hold a very impressive overall record so far of 18-1 and a regular season record of9-1. Both the girls and coaches have a great amount to be proud of!
On Saturday January 18th, the WA girls took on St. Andrew’s School, and came out of the game with a big win.The score remained close the entire game, until Worcester Academy’s Aliyah Boston ‘19 scored. The game was finished off by Adara Groman ‘20 who put in a few free throws making the final score a close 61-57.
The Worcester Academy girls have a lot to be proud of, especially with Aliyah Boston’s 28 points against Noble and Greenough, as well as a whopping 15 points from junior Kiera Fernandes.
A few weeks ago, the girls traveled down to New Hope Academy in New York City for a competitive tournament. WAGVBB was able to bring two big wins home with them to the Hilltop, beating New Hope Academy 43-36 and Bishop Ireton High School in a close and more physical game with a score of 35-31.
On Wednesday, January 31st, the girls jumped right back into their regular season and took a huge win over Suffield, beating them 61-35.
WAGVBB has been working especially hard this season as a team, being super motivated to keep their fantastic record up to par for the remaining games this season. There are no seniors on the team this year, so the leadership roles have been left up to the four juniors, Lauren Power, Aliyah Boston, Megan Nguyen, and Kiera Fernandes, who are all fantastic athletes and role models for the rest of their underclassmen roster.
After coming home from New York, the winning streak continued for the girls, beating Suffield Academy 61-35, which is said to be a “great team win” according to the girls’ highlight page.
After a tough loss to Northfield Mount Hermon (44-51) on February 3rd, the girls were able to come back with three consecutive wins against Lawrence Academy, Phillips Exeter, and New Hampton School.
So, what is left for the team who seems to have it all? There are only 2 games left for the girls this season- not including the NEPSAC playoffs.Unfortunately for us fans, there is only 1 opportunity left to catch this unbelievably talented group of girls on their home court. Considering how great this team is, it is not a game you would want to miss! The Hilltoppers will take on Naval Prep Academy on Wednesday February 21st at 5:30PM for their last home game of the season, so make sure you mark your calendars!
From all of us at The Vigornia, we want to wish our Worcester Academy Varsity Girls Basketball Team the best of luck with the rest of their season! We believe in you, now let’s bring home 2 more W’s to end the regular season strong!
