Generations Gather on The Hilltop
Grandparents Day at Worcester Academy has been a favorite tradition amongst the community for many years. This year the event fell on October 26th, a beautiful sunny day that opened the doors to our highest turnout of grandparents to support their grandchildren.
The day began with a warm welcome from Headmaster Ron Cino and an enjoyable lunch in Rowe Court, where the students accompanied their grandparents. The guests had the opportunity to interact with one another and share their own high school memories. The lunch also consisted of a performance by the Academy Singers, a vocal ensemble from Worcester Academy.
As the day proceeded, grandparents were able to shadow their grandchildren for one of their classes and essentially experience a day in the life of a Worcester Academy student. In the class they attended the guests saw firsthand the youth of today in an educational setting, with the demonstration of Worcester Academy’s core values, honor, respect, community, challenge, and personal growth. The day ended with a gathering of all the grandparents with their grandchildren outside the Student Center where the visitors reminisced amongst each other about their memorable day on The Hilltop.
My grandmother had always wondered what it is was like to be a Worcester Academy student. She missed the opportunity to attend this event several years ago with my brother Sean and was anxiously anticipating visiting with me. After this years event she said “I wish my high school experience was as special as yours and I hope you know how fortunate you are to attend such an exceptional school.”
Grandparents Day represents priceless moments that bridge both generations. Although the day has come and gone, the memories will live on.
