Flag Football Family Night Fun
Surrounded by families, friends, and the mouthwatering scents of pork chop tacos, mac and cheese, and hot dogs, Worcester Academy’s Upper School Flag Football Family Night kicked off at 6 p.m. on October 3. Sixteen student teams competed for the Golden Football Trophy, bringing energy, excitement, and plenty of school spirit.
The first round featured matchups between McDonald’s National vs Tomato Clampers, The Hogs vs Da Freshmen, Rangers vs Panthers, Beach Bums vs Lady Bobs, Sgs vs No Name, Faderede vs Nick’s Squad, Belichecks Dream vs Insert Team Name, and The Ducks vs 6sendy. Every team brought their best, but one of the most memorable moments came from an impressive touchdown pass by Foster Little to TJ Orthoefer of Insert Team Name; a play that had the sidelines erupting in cheers. Though this underdog team ultimately fell to Belichick’s Dream, the moment perfectly captured the night’s spirit of fellowship and community.
The second round saw McDonald’s National, Beach Bums, Sgs, and The Ducks advance to the semifinals after strong performances. The matchup between Sgs and The Ducks kept everyone on edge, with both teams trading touchdowns until The Ducks narrowly pulled ahead to secure their spot in the finals. Facing the Beach Bums in a high-energy championship game, the Ducks stayed determined. After an eight-minute back-and-forth battle, the Ducks emerged victorious, receiving the Golden Football title.
Looking beyond the games, the evening was a celebration of togetherness. Four local food trucks (Easy Street Tacos, Mac Daddy, Dogfather, and Bird’s Nest Italian Street Food) served delicious meals as spectators cheered for players regardless of their team or grade. This year’s Flag Football Family Night was made complete through sportsmanship, laughter, and school spirit.
