100 Days Until Graduation: A Look Back at the Class of 2025
Today marks 100 days until the Class of ‘25 graduates, being the last class to have experienced the COVID pandemic in high school as well as the class with the most controversy and yet the largest icons at Worcester Academy in years.
The lack of middle school due to COVID caused us, members of the graduating class, to come to high school with middle school attitudes. While our immature conduct wore off quickly, the start of freshman year was tough; beginning with a behavior contract signed off on by former Head of Student Life, Mr. Jake Sumner. This instance was the first of multiple class meetings to reprimand the Class of 2025. Nevertheless, I truly believe that the graduating class has brought much-needed change to WA at a time when the new administration was adjusting school policy and community rules.
From D1 athletes to the five faces of the theatre department and pageant queens, we got our act together quickly. For instance, the Pillars have become a prominent and hard-working student leadership group with the addition of our class members, as well as newspaper pieces that have influenced change on the Hilltop. Our soccer teams have been led to victory by numerous members of the Class of 2025, as seen by the most recent NEPSAC championship win by the Varsity Girls team this season.
Despite the Class of 2025’s adjustment to the Worcester Academy community, our contributions to the Hilltop did not materialize in greater recognition: for the first time in a long time, the senior class did not receive a celebration for their 100 days until graduation mark. As well, we did not receive notifications of senior privileges such as leaving campus during the day that had been previously awarded to the Class of 2024.
It is unfortunate that the recognition or celebration the graduating class deserves has not been fully realized; however, I know the legacy of our achievements will undoubtedly be remembered. As we approach the end of our era on the hilltop, I hope that the Class of 2025 is proud of the positive change and achievements that we have brought to Worcester Academy history and can honor these accomplishments through self-celebration.
