Dining Hall Poll Results: Room for Improvement
As a preface, this article is not meant to offend or discredit the SAGE dining crew, rather to check in with the community. We appreciate your hard work and everything you do for us!
Last week, we sent out a poll asking the WA community what their thoughts were on SAGE, our food provider, as well as the dining halls. These questions highlighted growing concerns about the amount, and quality of, food served. We wanted to gather feedback directly from members of the community to determine which areas needed improvement.
We asked Worcester Academy members how often they eat in the dining hall and whether they eat what is served:
- We found that 56.9% of students and faculty always eat in the dining hall, while 18.5% said they rarely eat or never eat in the dining hall
Concerning meals provided by SAGE dining:
- 32.3% of WA members use the salad bar, pasta station, or rice cooker instead of eating the main entree most of the time
- 40 % of the WA community said sometimes
- 7% for all and never of the time
We then asked about excitement for SAGE dining meals:
- 20% of students and faculty are never excited about Sage meals
Following our previous question, we asked Worcester Academy about what areas need changes. Regarding improvements, the four most recurring topics were:
- Quality of food
- Variety of food
- Warmer food
- Larger portions served
As for favorite meals served by SAGE Dining? The three most loved meals from the polls were:
- Grilled cheese
- Chicken parm
- Chicken tenders
*From warmer meals to more variety and food qaulity, the WA community wants meals that sustain their everyday needs. During the school year, Worcester Academy is home to about 45% of our student body; having a warm, satisfying meal every day is essential to members of our residential life. Overall, the WA community has clear concerns about the food provided and hope to see change.
*This information was gathered from a community wide, voluntary poll, dispersed via email.
