Why You Should Take APUSH From Someone Who Got a Two on the Exam

Throughout my time at Worcester Academy, I have heard so many students talking about how they didn’t take a class as they were scared of getting a bad grade in it. In a world where grades seem to be everything this is a perfectly understandable fear. However, as a student who took AP US History last year, didn’t do particularly well in the class, and failed the exam, I am encouraging you to try it and stick with it. While APUSH may have brought my GPA down and caused me some stress, I have no regrets.

So, why should you take or stick with AP United States History? Ms. Schlesinger is one of Worcester Academy’s most phenomenal teachers. Past students can confidently admit she is a fantastic teacher. I am not the most mentally focused individual, yet Ms. Schlesinger’s engaging lectures allowed me to participate in class discussions. Despite the challenges of this class, such as rigorous essays, in-depth seminars, and a multitude of exams, you could never help but look forward to it because it was never boring. She is passionate about what she teaches and explains everything clearly. U.S. history is a focused topic that allows you to learn deeply about things you touched on as kids, which makes it all the more interesting as you’re already familiar with the material. Your history essay writing will also improve immensely in the class as well, partly due to Ms. Schlesinger’s timely and effective feedback. If there is one thing you can rely on, it’s that Ms. Schlesinger will get your grades out quicker than any other teacher. She wants to see you succeed, and all the essays, debates, and notes are for a good reason. Chances are you won’t fail the exam like I did. Most pass the exam because of how well she prepares her students. My main issue was MCQs which I was unfamiliar with as APUSH was my first AP history course. However, if I had taken an AP history course previously, I may have been a better test taker. Overall, you should take it. It’s worth it.
