2024 Patriots—What Does the Rest of the Season Look Like?

For all the Patriots and football fans out there, time is flying by: we are essentially halfway through the NFL season. For the Patriots, this season has looked like a lost cause and just another tank for a top 5 pick. Or has it?

Unless you don’t follow football or Boston sports, the Patriots drafted Drake Maye with the third overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Maye looked fantastic as a quarterback during his freshman year of college at UNC and was renowned for his playmaking abilities. He was dubbed by draft analysts as having great physical traits, standing at 6’4 and 223 lbs. I saw his playstyle as being comparable to Brett Favre and Josh Allen.

Most draft analysts saw that Maye was a “project quarterback” with a low floor but a very high ceiling. He was destined to be a top 5 pick. However, traits that needed work, such as his footwork and his tendency to scramble immediately out of the pocket were some drawbacks of drafting Maye.

Despite these pitfalls, Maye has developed greatly and played well for the Patriots, especially in the situation that he is in. Head coach Jerod Mayo was intent on starting Maye against the Texans in Week 6, and he looked solid with an offense that is, statistically, the worst in the NFL. He has continued to play well, showing a lot of quarterback play that some Patriots fans have not seen since Tom Brady.

To get a greater understanding of the situation, we asked some NFL fans at WA questions about the rookie:

Question 1: How do you think Drake Maye has played so far?

“Astonishing, given the play from the offensive line and receivers.”

“He has a lot of potential and has shown a lot of talent. With his lack of talent at the o-line, receivers, and no protection, we might waste a great quarterback with a lot of injuries. Having better coaching would make Maye a lot better.”

“Amazing. Best quarterback in the league!”

“He has played great and Caleb Williams is nothing compared to him.”

Question 2: Do you see him as the future franchise quarterback?

“Yes.”

“I hope he can be. He’s not Tom Brady, but he can be developed into a consistently good quarterback for multiple seasons, like how Philip Rivers was.”

“I do. I think he’s going to be a very big and inspiring player in the league. He has the potential to have the work ethic of Tom Brady.”

“He is my glorious king and the future of the New England Patriots.”

With all this in mind, the Patriots are now looking to score a top 5 pick to help our new quarterback. If they do, they should most likely look for offensive help. My choices would be Tetairoa McMillan, Kelvin Banks Jr, or Ashton Jeanty.

Who do you think the Patriots should go for in the draft? Do you think Maye has played well so far? Let us know in the comments.
